Melbourne, Australia – CALD Community Voices Australia proudly announces its first documentary production, Piquency: Silent Heroes, a compelling film that celebrates the strength, resilience, and contributions of individuals from Melbourne’s diverse communities. The project has been made possible with the support of the Victorian Government.
Conceptualised and produced by Niru Tripathi, the documentary is scripted and directed by Nandita Chakraborty. Piquency: Silent Heroes tells the inspiring stories of 16 unsung heroes whose dedication, leadership, and quiet determination are shaping Melbourne’s vibrant multicultural identity.
Through powerful personal narratives, the documentary highlights individuals who have made remarkable contributions to their communities—often without recognition. From grassroots advocates to community leaders, their stories reflect courage, perseverance, and a deep commitment to creating positive change.
Adding to its significance, Piquency: Silent Heroes has been officially selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025 and Melbourne Film Festival 2025 respectively, one of the most prominent platforms celebrating Indian and Australian multicultural cinema in Australia.
Producer Niru Tripathi said the documentary aims to give a voice to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes for their communities.
“These are stories of resilience, compassion, and leadership. Our heroes may not always stand in the spotlight, but their work transforms lives and strengthens the fabric of our multicultural society.”
Director Nandita Chakraborty also shared her perspective on the project.
“This documentary is about the quiet courage that often goes unnoticed. Through these stories, we wanted to capture the humanity, struggles, and strength of people who continue to shape our communities with hope and determination.”
In another major milestone, Piquency: Silent Heroes has also been recognised by SBS and is available on SBS On Demand, bringing these powerful community stories to a wider national audience.
The film stands as a celebration of diversity, community spirit, and the collective power of individuals who continue to inspire change.
Piquency: Silent Heroes is more than a documentary—it is a tribute to the strength and humanity found within Melbourne’s multicultural communities.

Directed by Nandita Chakraborty and produced in collaboration with Niru Tripathi and CALD Community Voices, the 60-minute film travels deep into regional Victoria—from Nhill and Dimboola to Shepparton and Gippsland—where migrant heroes open their kitchens, and their hearts, to tell stories rarely captured on screen.
